Part XI.II : Reflections on 2nd Group Project
Syafiqah Husna binti Abu Hanipah
The “mini” project revolves around recycling the food waste and turns it into something valuable for the people. It’s a Waste-to-Wealth kind of project where supposedly we have to take waste from Tesco and figure out how to convert it into something worth. Aside from the board game project, this is the most interesting project I have ever done. It taught me how to convert waste to methane, fertilizer, and etc. It’s like we are figuring out how to give back to the community from the waste that we obtained. Even though the outcomes may not be much, but it is a giant leap to provide a better future for the future generations by recycling, creating and innovating while saving the Earth.

The 2nd mini project that we did right now definitely hit us to the reality world where the plant designing took place. I understand that we have to be prepared for such thing, and being exposed to it earlier give an overview on the engineer's work. Compare to the first project which is mostly the 'Fun Eduacation' type, this project is more serious. We need to do literature reviews from journals, academic books and such to get such information. Depending on the internet is just is not enough, because of the limited resources being published online. It is very challenging. More knowledge is gain when we are talking about the process to turn waste into wealth. We are indirectly promoting green technology to the world. This is more than self-studying from slides and books, this project test our analytical synthesising skills of the abundant knowledges that we have. With the calculated amount of workloads including tests, lab reports due every week and assignments, it's definitely testing our time management skills.

I would say that Project 2 does give a lot of benefits but at the same time due to some difficulties and constraints, this project do cause a lot of troubles. This project helps students to get early exposure about what they going to do for their FYP, however due to lack of knowledge and exposure about all the elements in the project, some students including me find it difficult to find the correct sources and method in completing all the elements of the project. Besides that, I also able to learn a lot of new green technologies that convert waste to something valuable through this project. Since I have a lot of interest in green technologies, this project enhance my knowledge on this matter.

When we got this project, first thing which came to my mind was “It will be hard, how are we going to do it?”, at the beginning it was scary, however when we started doing it, project became understandable. Also the guideline which was given to was the key to do this project. It did consume a lot of our time, but as my opinion it will be really helpful when we need to do our FYP project. My part was to explain about chosen technology and HAZOP, and actually I learned a lot from it. I think this is also another way to get us to think more about sustainable energy, which will not harm. It was interesting journey for me, I have learned more about green technologies, which I didn’t even suspect it was out in the World.

Firstly, I was very scared seeing the workload in the second project and seeing that our finals was near. But thank god there was the raya break which gave me time to catch up on studies and focus on the project. I learned a lot throughout this project such as stress management, human resources management, and also time management. Also my skill in Autocad sharpens after this project which is very helpful to my engineer career. Learning is the supportive element for me to complete this project.
